Personal, humane and interdisciplinary features of the training programs of health practitioners can influence the selection of their field occupation and the working processes of multidisciplinary teams. This article describes the sociodemographic profile of doctors of the Family Health Strategy (Estratégia de Saúde da Família) in the Metropolitan Region of Recife, based on a descriptive study on a sample of 76 physicians in 10 municipalities. The data showed a balance between male (52.6 %) and female (47.4%) doctors; 76.3% of the interviewees were older than 40; 86.6% reported having post-graduation degrees; and 56.6% had a monthly income 12 times higher than the national minimum wage. Most of the sociodemographic findings of this study are similar to data found in previous works based on other regions of Brazil.
