Abstract

AMARANTE, Jorge Meireles; COSTA, Vera Lúcia de Araújo  and  SILVA, Fátima Aparecida. Sensibilidade tuberculínica e vacina BCG entre os índios do Araguaia - MT/1997. Bol. Pneumol. Sanit. [online]. 1999, vol.7, n.1, pp.79-86. ISSN 0103-460X.

As part of the work routine for implementation for tuberculosis control actions among indigenous of the Karajá and Tapirapé villages under the Araguaia Regional Executive Administration for the Nacional Indian Foundation, on the frontier between the Brazilian States of Mato Grosso and Tocantins, an intensive search for tuberculosis cases among high risc groups was carried out, including all respiratory symptoms carriers of caugh with sputum during three weeks or more and contact of tuberculosis pacients with positive smear registered by the health system in 1997. On this occasion, tuberculin test was applicated in 1338 persons, corresponding to 67,2% of the general population and the presence of the vaccine scar for BCG was checked. The authors found only 6,3% of reactors to the tuberculin test among 1 year old children and 5% among 5 years old, thus indicating low sensitivity to the test among these recently vaccinated with intradermic BCG. This evidence revealed high PPD predictive value for the diagnosis of the natural infeccion by the human bacillus among contacts and so the tuberculin test was useful to define the risc group to be protected by chemoprophilaxis.
