Abstract

The authors make a retrospective study of the behavior of the tuberculosis in the indigenous communites in the year of 2000, starting from a consolidated of data correspondents to the Department of Indigenous National Foundation of Health for 21 (61,8%) of the 34 Special Sanitary Indigenous Districts implanted in all the areas of the Brazilian territory, responsible for the execution of the actions of attendance to the health of the people. There were lifted up data about the discovery of tuberculosis cases, the result of the treatment of the cases that had increased in the period, and indicators as incidence coefficient, lethality, mortality, rates of cure and of treatment abandonment. In the Districts that it had informed, were discovered 526 new cases of tuberculosis, as long as 290 (55,1) were confirmed by the examination of the sputum. The medium coefficient of incidence of all the forms of the desease reached 264,5 for 100.000 inhabitants and only in the confirmed cases 139,6 for 100.000. The lethality in the confirmed cases reached levels superior to 10%. Everything results in a low rate of the patients'cure submitted to the treatment, of the order of only 73,0%, showing to be also the tuberculosis a serious problem of health among the indigenous communities
