Abstract

SANTOS, Claudia Benedita dos; HINO, Paula; VILLA, Tereza Cristina Scatena  and  MUNIZ, Jordana Nogueira. Indicadores epidemiológicos e de impacto da tuberculose para Ribeirão Preto no período de 1990 a 2000. Bol. Pneumol. Sanit. [online]. 2002, vol.10, n.1, pp.31-40. ISSN 0103-460X.

An evaluation of the most frequently used indicators in tuberculosis control during the period 1990- 2000 was made by the Epidemiological Surveillance Service of the Ribeirão Preto Municipal Health. From 1990 to 1997, data was collected directly from the records of the Epidemiological Surveillance Service, and for the period from 1998 to 2000, the Epi-Tb Program was used. Demographic data used to calculate the coefficients was supplied by IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics). It was detected an increase of 29% in the incidence coefficients for all forms of tuberculosis from 1996 to 1997, interpreted as the result of the implementation of active search for respiratory symptomatic individuals in 1996, and an annual decrease of the number of cases after 1997. Cure and drop-out rates significantly improved in 1997 with the beginning of the supervised treatment implementation process as a strategy for the reduction of drop-out rates and an increase in cure. Recurrence was more frequent in the age group 30-39 years and for pulmonary tuberculosis, followed by extrapulmonary tuberculosis and pulmonary tuberculosis associated with extrapulmonary tuberculosis. Thjere was no case of tuberculosis meningitis in individuals under 5 years old over the period 1998-2000
