Abstract

The Mycobacterium tuberculosis post primary resistance (PPR) profili was restudy from 349 stool samples of pulmonary tuberculosis patients, during the retreatment action at Tuberculosis Reference Unity of São Paulo City - Brazil, during 1995, 1996, and 1997 years, with was classified according the previous therapeutic action in: RA, including the patient returning with active tuberculosis after treatment ab andonment; RC, patients with tuberculosis receding after cure of initial treatment; F!, patients with first line of treatment failure, and MR second line of treatment failure. The sensitivity test was done after M. tuberculosis isolation at Lowesinstein Jensen Medium. The PPR profile show a global result of 69%, 38% RA. 41% RC, 79% F1, and 100% MR. The PPR just for one drug was 15%, and for two or more 54%. If just for RA and RC patients, the PPR was evaluated at 39% resistance level, 29% for two or more drugs. The rifampin and isoniazid cuple showed 6% resistance, and 2% just for ethambutol
