Abstract
CORREA, Paulo Roberto Lopes and ASSUNCAO, Ada Ávila. Sub-notification of deaths due to occupational accidents: a study of three databases. Epidemiol. Serv. Saúde [online]. 2003, vol.12, n.4, pp.203-212. ISSN 1679-4974. http://dx.doi.org/10.5123/S1679-49742003000400004.
The objective of this study is to compare three official database systems with information about worker´s health, matching data of deaths due to occupational accidents in 1999 and the discrepancies between the three registration systems. The study was performed using the following databases: The Mortalitiy Information System (SIM) at the Municipal Health Department of Belo Horizonte City, the Occupational Accident Information System of Belo Horizonte (SIAT-SUS/BH) and the Occupational Accident Communication System of the National Institute of Social Security (INSS). The analysis included the death certificates (DO) of Belo Horizonte residents in 1999 registered in SIM, the fatal occupational accidents registered in SIAT-SUS/BH, and a list of indemnification payed by INSS for deaths caused by occupational accidents. The results indicate a sub-notification of deaths due to occupational accidents. It was observed that, to change the situation of workers health in Brazil, it would be necessary to define a systematic information flow among the official instituitions where these relevant data are compiled.
