Abstract
CANABARRO, Isabel Machado and HAHN, Siomara. Overview of pharmaceutical care at family health units in a town in the countryside of Rio Grande do Sul state. Epidemiol. Serv. Saúde [online]. 2009, vol.18, n.4, pp.345-355. ISSN 1679-4974. http://dx.doi.org/10.5123/S1679-49742009000400004.
The cross sectional study involving fifteen units of the Family Health Program in a town in the countryside of Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil, aimed to verify the pharmaceutical care scenario at primary care units. We have interviewed professionals responsible for medicine stock, out of which nine were nurses. In average each unit sees 600 patients per year. In ten units there were dentists. In seven units the supply of products was kept on a monthly basis and in six of them the volume of products was unable to meet the actual demand. Stock control was done in ten units. In eleven units a medical doctor distributes medicine for patients. In nine units there were controlled drugs. Products storage and conservation were in good conditions, meeting the specifications of the Brazilian National Key Medicine List (Rename). Special control products in stock and irregular drug supply suggest the need for pharmacists at those units.
