Resumen
STEIN, Airton Tetelbom. Health service evaluation requires the use of validated instruments. Epidemiol. Serv. Saúde [online]. 2013, vol.22, n.1, pp.179-181. ISSN 1679-4974. http://dx.doi.org/10.5123/S1679-49742013000100019.
The article describes the importance of using validated instruments to evaluate the quality of primary health care. Based on a critical appraisal of the article "Concordance analysis in Primary Health Care evaluation instruments in the city of Curitiba, Parana, Brazil, in 2008.", several concepts of health service evaluation are reviewed. The analyzed study has adequate internal validity. The information system enables primary health care action evaluation and monitoring. Evaluation is one of the best mechanisms to answer the needs of managers with regard to planning and decision making. With public and private sector policies increasingly emphasizing the importance of primary care, the need for tools to evaluate and improve primary care performance is clear. Primary Care Assessment Tool (PCATool) has excellent measurement properties, whereas Evaluation for Quality Improvement (AMQ) needs to validate its properties.
