MONTECHI, Lucas Nunes; COELHO, Danieli Maria Matias; OLIVEIRA, Carlos Alberto Rodrigues de e CAMPELO, Viriato. Spatial distribution of tuberculosis in Teresina, Piauí, 2005-2007. Epidemiol. Serv. OBJECTIVE: to describe tuberculosis spatial distribution in the city of Teresina, Piauí. METHODS: descriptive study using new tuberculosis cases reported on the Brazilian Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System in the years 2005-2007, using the Kernel method for spatial analysis. RESULTS: 951 cases were reported, of which 875 (92%) were georeferenced. There was a reduction in the incidence rate from 42 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 2005 to 37 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 2007.The highest average incidence was found in males (52.1 /100,000 inhabitants) and in those aged 50 years or more (105.81 /100,000 inhabitants). With geocoding it was possible to identify the three zones of highest case density, namely the southeast, south central and northern regions of the city. CONCLUSION: the identification of tuberculosis outbreaks and their concentration in vulnerable subgroups in the municipality can contribute to the planning of local actions to confront with the disease.
