BRITO, Marcus Vinicius Henriques et al. Andiroba and copaiba oils effect in induced miositis in rats. Rev. Para. Med. [online]. 2006, vol.20, n.2, pp.17-24. ISSN 0101-5907.

OBJECTIVE: this paper aims to evaluate the topic effect of Andiroba and Copaiba oils in treatment of miositis induced in rats. METHOD: it was used 90 rats (Rattus norvegicus albinus) Wistar inbreed, female, adults, from 190 to 240g. These animals were put into 6 groups of 15 according to the respective procedure in each group: Acetic acid group (no treatment), ultrasound (water based gel phonophoresis), Diclofenac group (dietilammonium diclofenac phonophoresis), andiroba group (andiroba phonophoresis), copaíba group (copaiba phonophoresis), andiroba and copaiba (andiroba and copaiba phonophoresis). It was performed phonophoresis therapy in all animals after injection of 0,2ml of acetic acid in posterior right limb, except in acetic acid group which didn't receive treatment with phonophoresis of correspondent drugs in each group. In the period of two, five, seven, ten and fourteen days, 3 rats from each group were submitted to euthanasia to evaluate evolution of inflammatory process, with right gastrocnemius muscles biopsy sent to histopathological analyses and results sent to statistical analyses that used Chi-square, Chi-square part and Kruskal Wallis (p d" 0,05). RESULTS: there were no differences statistically significant among studied groups under used methodology, with all groups presentig similar results eiher on edema diary evolution and histopathological aspect. CONCLUSION: andiroba and copaiba oil's phonophoresis didn't achieve statistically significant results in reduction of miositis induced in rats, according to the used methodology.
