LIMA, Fábio André Souto e AZEVEDO, Valéria Nascimento da Gama. Correlation between body mass index and the values of serum lipids in perimenopausal women. Rev. Para. Med. [online]. 2006, vol.20, n.2, pp.25-28. ISSN 0101-5907.
OBJECTIVE: study the correlation between fasting serum lipids concentration with body mass index in perimenopausal women. METHODS: all 80 patients studied never had used hormonal medications, including sex steroids. Body mass index (BMI) was calculated as weight/height2 (Quetelet index). The correlation between the distribution of body mass index values and serum lipids was calculated using the Spearmann test and the significant results was p<0.05. RESULTS:BMI between 17.7 and 36.5 Kg/m2; total cholesterol levels between 159 and 342 mg/dl, HDL cholesterol between 29 and 62 mg/dl, LDL cholesterol between 85 and 280 mg/dl and triglycerides values between 59 and 307 mg/dl. CONCLUSION:BMI did not show a significant statistically correlation with the values of lipid profile in perimenopause women.
