Abstract

OBJECTIVE: to establish the clinical and pathological profile of patients submitted to renal biopsy. METHOD: a transversal study of 64 handbooks of patients submitted to renal biopsy in the period of July, 1999 until June, 2005 and assisted at the glomerulopathies ambulatory of the Ophir Loyola Hospital was carried through. Data including age, sex, histopathologic diagnosis and blood pressure, urine exam and serum creatinine at the time of indication of renal biopsy were analysed by the Qui-square Test using the software Biostat 3.0 and Excel 7.0 for Windows 98 with p < 0,05. RESULTS: patients were predominantly females (62,5%) between the second and fourth decades (47%). Lupus nephritis was the most predominant diagnosis (25%), specially Class IV (56,25%), followed by membranous glomerulonephritis (20,31%). CONCLUSION: patients submitted to renal biopsy at the glomerulopathies ambulatory of the Ophir Loyola Hospital are predominantly females between the second and fourth decades with histopathologic diagnosis of lupus nephritis class IV and membranous glomerulonephritis.
