This study emerges from a conception of qualitative nursing assistance towards the population, based on the attitude of promoting their own health. It aims to discuss nursing actions in preventing tuberculosis among contacts of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis patients. The study follows a descriptive-exploratory style and was being developed based on Peplau and King, during the Nursing Appointments with contacts of patients registered in the Protocol for Treatment of Multidrug-Resistant Tuberculosis, at the Centro de Referência Hélio Fraga - R. J. - Brazil. The data described by ISSA Program, and the qualitative data, analyzed by thematic content, allowed to identify that the contacts, regardless their epidemiological characteristics, did not modify, even temporarily, the intensity of their exposure to the multidrug-resistant source of infection. It can be stated that there is, among others, the need of a larger involvement of the Nurse in the Program of Tuberculosis Control. This involvement refers mainly to the need to stimulate greater participation of the contacts of persons infected by multidrug-resistant tuberculosis bacillus in active, individual and collective tuberculosis prevention.
