SUMMARY The objective of this investigation was to analyse through the staff’s view, the supervised treatment in tuberculosis control, introduced in the Units administered by Municipal Health Department of Ribeirão Preto, so as to characterize , the means of this intervention and its forms of approach. The population of the study was composed of 13 professionals directly evolved with the Tuberculosis Control Programme. The semi-structured interview was used as an instrument for data collection. To treat the data collected was used the method of analysis of content. The thematic unit we came across were: "supervised treatment as a perspective of change in practice: What Kind of intervention?". The conclusion is that the supervised treatment happens in the practice as an intervention permeated of several forms of approaches: as an action with a therapeutic view; as a means to reduce transmission, being it through the control of the communicants, or through favouring educative ctioans at family to broaden the competence of the agent’s interaction and performance, through the establishment of a bond of union, acceptance, responsibility in the perspective of assuring the adherence of the patient to the treatment and more quality of health attention.
