Nested case-control study within a cohort. The study takes place in Rio de Janeiro, at Raphael de Paula Souza Hospital, from january to march, 1989. It was sampled 78 cases (treatment abandonment) and 93 controls (cure treatment). The aim of this study it was to predict factors to abandonment of tuberculosis treatment. For analyses was used the EPIINFO and SPSS8 applications. The predict factors were unemployment patients, the alcoholic addition, not improvement of clinical symptom related by the patients, the health service rejection translated by the patients as did not come back to the health service and to look for another one.
