This work evaluates the TB cases notified twice or more times during 1998 and 1999 and describes pacients' status regarding the treatment. It was found in the database of the surveillance system of the Secretariat of Health of the Sate of Bahia 457 notifications of 225 patients with two or more notifications. From the 225 cases it was selected 164 and from these 164, 145 were found in the "black book" and patients files in the health centres. 66 patients abandoned the treatment that had started in the first notification, and started it again in the second one. 26 patients had been cured in the first treatment and got the disease again. It was observed that the patients that had abandoned the treatment returned early than the patients that had been cured. Considering the total number of cases of non-compliance, it was estimated that only 18% of the defaulters returned to the treatment during the year in which they abandoned the treatment or in the following year
