After decades of war the tuberculosis situation in Angola is alarming. The author describes an adapted TB control programme in Malange, run under difficult circumstances. Key factors for success of the DOTS treatment are the motivation of staff and of patients, partly displaced persons, and the training of the health care workers. In the author's opinion, both support for TB control in Angola is urgently needed and the implementation of effective TB control programmes is possible
