BRAGA, José Ueleres; BARRETO, Angela M. W. e HIJJAR, Miguel Aiub. Inquérito epidemiológico da resistência às drogas usadas no tratamento da tuberculose no Brasil 1995-97, IERDTB: Parte II: validade e confiabilidades das medidas. Bol. Pneumol. Sanit. OBJECTIVE: To determine 1) the accuracy of the interviews to identify anti-tuberculosis prior treatment and 2) the reliability of drug susceptibility test to detect drug resistance by Brazilian regions. DESIGN: A cross sectional study using a multiple stage sampling design. The validity was estimated comparing the interviews responses with State TCP databases. The drug-sensitivity tests reliability was estimated comparing the State laboratory results with the national results. RESULTS: The overall sensitivity of the interview was 97.8% and the specificity was 65.3%. The highest sensitivity was 98.5% in Southeast (SE) and the lowest was 95.0% in Middle-West(MW) region. The interviews in North(NO), Northeast(NE) and South(SO) had sensitivity of 98.0%, 97.6% and 98.3% respectively. The specificity was 78% in NO, 57% in NE, 66.8% in SE, 80% in MW and 56.5% in SO region. The Brazilian kappa coefficient calculated to drug-sensitivity tests was 0.887 to INH, 0.971 to RMP, 0.856 to SM and 0.503 to RMP. CONCLUSIONS: Its high sensitivity indicates that interview is a good strategy and the high agreement values indicates good performance to the laboratory tests in this Brazilian research.
