This article discusses tuberculosis as a link of a chain-of-poverty. Other links of the chain are famine, lack of work (employment) and the corresponding lack of income, lack of education together with lack of the culture of education. It describes the results of a study conducted by the QTROP Society in Vila Ros·rio, a region in the Duque de Caxias municipality of the state of Rio de Janeiro, looking toward eliminating tuberculosis from this region (103 cases/100,000 inhabitants). It analyses the results obtained with the work and discusses ways to control tuberculosis. Among the main suggestions made to eliminate tuberculosis are the necessary presence of communitarian agents and of social assistants working together with the medical staff; use of the ëgardens of curesí; implementation of psychological assistance to patients and pos-patients; development of new drugs more efficient (less treating time and less toxic); establishment of an efficient nutrition program to garantee reinforcement of natural body defenses; implementation of new job places (employment) through production of plant medicines and phytonutraceuticals, all that sustained by an intense and broad education process. It concludes saying that it will be only through a holistic action over all links of this poverty chain that will enable success to eliminating tuberculosis.
