SANCHEZ, Alba Idaly Muñoz  e  BERTOLOZZI, Maria Rita. Conhecimento sobre a tuberculose por estudantes universitários. Bol. Pneumol. Sanit. [online]. 2004, vol.12, n.1, pp.19-26. ISSN 0103-460X.

The tuberculosis continues to be a serious problem of public health in the world-wide and at the brazilian scene. The objective of the present study was to identify aspects related to the tuberculosis vulnerability of residents (students) of the Residential Set of the University of São Paulo (CRUSP)-Brazil, specifically in relation to their knowledge on the disease. The theoretical referential on the vulnerability, advocated for Ayres was applied. It is a descriptive and quantitative study, and the population was conformed by a statistically significant sample of the 106 postgraduation and graduation students (69.8% of graduation and 30.2% of post-graduation). The data had been collected through the application of a questionnaire, from October to November of 2002. 84 students (79,2%) had answered that they knew what was tuberculosis, making correct mention to disease, 63% related to know the symptomatology, 84% had answered that the illness can be transmitted person by person and 78.3% had answered that the disease could be treated. Similar percentage related that the cure is possible by using appropriate drugs. Is important to focus that 56.6% were unaware of the causal agent of the illness and from 72 (67,9%) that had related to have heard about the illness, it occurred inside the education institution. It was inquired, too, if they knew which health facilities could be accessed to verify the presence of the disease, and 48 (45,3%) had answered unfamiliarity. It calls the attention that 20.8% of the students had related doesn't to know on the illness, pointing, also, that the disease is absent in the epidemiologic'profile. The study evidences points of vulnerability regarding to the knowledge on the disease, mainly considering that the students constitute a differential group, therefore in thesis would have more favorable conditions to access information regarding the illness.
