Resumen

JORGE, Maria Helena Prado de Mello  y  GOTLIEB, Sabina Léa Davidson. The basic care information system as a data source for the mortality and live birth information systems. Inf. Epidemiol. Sus [online]. 2001, vol.10, n.1, pp.7-18. ISSN 0104-1673.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5123/S0104-16732001000100002.

The existence of under enumeration in the Live Birth and Mortality Information Systems of the Brazilian Ministry of Health (SINASC and SIM) is well known. The current enlargement of the Program of Health Community Agents of the Ministry of Health (PACS/MH), which produces data for the Basic Care Information System (SIAB), gives the opportunity to evaluate its contribution in improving, partially or completely, the insufficient coverage of the two Systems: SINASC and SIM. With this objective, the total number of events reported in 1998 by the three systems (SINASC, SIM and SIAB) was compared. It was verified that in 92, 9 and 19 municipalities of the States of Ceará, Sergipe and Tocantins, respectively, the number of live births informed in SIAB was larger than the total collected by SINASC. In relation to death information, SIAB presented a higher number than SIM, in 43 municipalities in the State of Sergipe and 38, in the State of Tocantins. Regarding to deaths under one year of age, the total informed by SIAB was higher than SIM data in 53, 125, and 42 municipalities of the States of Sergipe, Ceará and Tocantins, respectively. A method of comparison of the three systems is proposed based on the notification of vital events. Notification cards would be filled by the community agents and delivered to the Municipalities Health Offices. After duplication verification the cards would be delivered to the State Health Offices, to complete the Mortality and Live Birth Information Systems

Palabras clave : Health Information System; Live Birth; Mortality.
