This is the final report of the Workshop "Information for the Brazilian Health System Management" that occurred in the VI Brazilian Congress of Collective Health. The goal of the Workshop was to elaborate an agenda with propositions, solutions and strategies to increase the use of information by managers of the several levels of the Brazilian Health System. Experiences and researches of the three government levels: federal, state and municipal, were presented. These examples lead to the discussion of the needs and perspectives of health information considering four major points: (i) use of health information; (ii) information technology; (iii) information quality and (iv) ethical issues concerning health information. Propositions were elaborated by the participants showing the importance of establishing mechanisms to allow the general public, technicians, and managers of the health system to express their opinions about information related to life, illness and death of the Brazilian population. Due to the relevant exchange of studies and experiences during the Workshop, this report was presented as a basic document for the Information System topic in the XI National Health Congress
