RUFFINO-NETTO, ntonio. Tuberculosis in Brazil: general information and news perspectives. Inf. Epidemiol. Sus [online]. 2001, vol.10, n.3, pp.129-138. ISSN 0104-1673.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5123/S0104-16732001000300004.

A preliminary report of the control activities of the National Tuberculosis Programme in Brazil is presented. General epidemiologic and operational information are described and the new perspectives with the implementation of the Family Health Programme and Community Health Agents are discussed. An increase in the health unit coverage was observed. In 1999, only 100 health units had adopted the supervised treatment strategy, in comparison with 1,106 units in 2000, representing a 1.106% increase. After the control plan was implemented, an increase of the percentage of respiratory symtomatics was also observed, passing from 13% to 74%
