TEIXEIRA, Cláudio Luiz dos Santos; BLOCH, Kátia Vergetti; KLEIN, Carlos Henrique e COELI, Cláudia Medina. Database linkage method Using the Mortality Information System (SIM) and the hospitalization authorization form system (BDAIH) in Brazil´s Unified Health System (SUS), in the investigation of ill-defined causes of death in Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil, 1998. Epidemiol. Serv. Saúde [online]. 2006, vol.15, n.1, pp.47-57. ISSN 1679-4974. http://dx.doi.org/10.5123/S1679-49742006000100004.
The article describes the methodology used to link the Mortality Information System (SIM) database to the Hospitalization Authorization Form System (known in Brazil by the Portuguese acronym, AIH) in Brazil´s Unified Health System (SUS) as a strategy to investigate deaths classified as due to ill-defined cause in Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil, during 1998. All death certificates classified as ill-defined were analyzed, as well as AIH paid during 1997 and 1998. Another article will deal exclusively with the results obtained in the reclassification. The technique was a probabilistic linkage of records, based on the variables name, sex and date of birth information, using RecLink II software. It was possible to relate 20% of ill-defined, and 30% of a sample of deaths of defined cause, with AIH. The reliability of the relationship method was high (Kappa=0.93).
