PEREIRA, Pricila Melissa Honorato et al. Hospital neonatal mortality in cohort of newborns in a maternity school in the Northeastern Region of Brazil, 2001-2003. Epidemiol. Serv. Saúde [online]. 2006, vol.15, n.4, pp.19-28. ISSN 1679-4974. http://dx.doi.org/10.5123/S1679-49742006000400003.
This study intends to describe the neonatal mortality profile among newborn babies at a tertiary institution in Pernambuco State, Brazil, between 2001 and 2003, using data from live births and deaths certificates. In order to do this, a link was made between the records of the respective databases. The neonatal mortality rate was high - certainly influenced by the profiles of the children born at this hospital -, mainly among babies born to mothers with insufficient prenatal visits; and also among dark-skinned babies, premature, of low birth weight or low with a Apgar-5 score. The from the perinatal period”; “Congenital malformation, deformities and chromosomical anomalies” also had high mortality rates.
