Abstract

DUARTE, Raquel M. Ramalheira  and  DONALISIO, Maria Rita. Adverse events after vaccination against influenza in an institucionalized population, Campinas-SP, Brazil, 2004. Epidemiol. Serv. Saúde [online]. 2009, vol.18, n.2, pp.171-178. ISSN 1679-4974.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5123/S1679-49742009000200008.

VVery little is known in Brazil about data on adverse effects of influenza vaccine in an institutionalized population. This study had the purpose of identifying these events in a nursing home in the city of Campinas, State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, after the National Influenza Vaccination Campaign in 2004. Interviews were held to verify local and general symptoms, after the immunobiological application in residents who agreed to participate in the research and showed conditions to express themselves. 14.3% out of the registered individuals had one or more symptoms, being local symptoms the most frequent (52.9%). A logistic multiple regression model was adjusted, considering any adverse effects after vaccination as dependent variable. None of the variables has proven to be statistically significant, demonstrating that occasional adverse reactions to the vaccine do not vary according to gender, age or the presence of chronic diseases. The results of this study reaffirm the low "reactogenicity" of influenza vaccine.
