Abstract

QUININO, Louisiana Regadas de Macedo et al. Evaluation of routine activities at the Schistosomiasis Control Program in Cities of the Metropolitan Area of Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil between 2003 and 2005. Epidemiol. Serv. Saúde [online]. 2009, vol.18, n.4, pp.335-343. ISSN 1679-4974.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5123/S1679-49742009000400003.

In order to evaluate routine activities at the Schistosomiasis Control Program in municipalities of the metropolitan area of Recife, State of Pernambuco, Brazil, a normative evaluation was performed. In this context, we have analyzed secondary data from the Schistosomiasis Control Program Information System related to municipalities that had implemented the program up to 2005. A scoring system was used ranking the cities according to the compliance of standards proposed by Brazil's Ministry of Health as follows: adequate (when reaching from 80 to 100 points), partially adequate (ranging from 50 to 79 points) and inadequate (with compliance rate below 50 points). Results showed that only one municipality has performed adequately (9.1%), seven have partially followed the established procedures (63.6%) and three (27.3%) have inadequately followed the established procedures, which shows that most municipalities assessed have difficulties when it comes to meeting standards for routine activities related to schistosomiasis control recommended by the Ministry of Health.
