Abstract
DIAS, Maria Beatriz Kneipp; GLAUCIA, Jeane and ASSIS, Tomazelli Mônica. Cervix cancer screening in Brazil: analysis of Siscolo data from 2002 to 2006. Epidemiol. Serv. Saúde [online]. 2010, vol.19, n.3, pp.293-306. ISSN 1679-4974. http://dx.doi.org/10.5123/S1679-49742010000300011.
OBJECTIVES: to make an analysis of data from the Cervical Cancer Information System (Siscolo), considering Brazil and its regions. METHODOLOGY: data from Siscolo were analyzed from 2002 to 2006. RESULTS: screening availability is below the estimated needs and isperformed in a shorter time span than recommended. There were also problems in data quality, a high percentage of ASC-US; as well as unsatisfactory desiccation, scarce or hemorrhagic material samples. CONCLUSION: the identified issues can be resolved by both expanding and qualifying basic care and monitoring laboratory quality. It is important to invest on Siscolo data quality and to optimize its management use in order to improve screening.
