OBJECTIVE: to describe oral health conditions of children, adolescents and adults residents in areas of the Family Health Strategy in the Municipality of Salvador, State of Bahia, Brazil, in 2005. METHODS: cross sectional study in a population of 1.258 infants, 1.286 adolescents and 1.249 adults; the exams were carried out in schools and residences. RESULTS: the percentage of caries free individuals variedfrom 51.1 to 1.3%, according to age; caries severity also increasedfrom childhood to adulthood (number of decayed, missing andfilled teeth - DMF-T index 1,4 and 14,1, respectively); lower and upper prosthesis need was frequent in adolescence (13.8% and 6.2%, respectively) and between adults (79.7% and 70.1%, respectively); the prevalence of fluorosis was 18.0% in children and 9.0% in adolescents. CONCLUSION: it was observed high prevalence and severity of oral problems; epidemiology applied to health services can collaborate on planning and monitoring actions conduced to identify problems.
