Abstract

OBJECTIVE: to describe the profile of remolvals in consequence of mental and behavioral disorders in public servants of the state of Alagoas, Brazil, in 2009. METHODS: a descriptive, exploratory cross study, which data were collected at the Directorate of Medical and Occupational Health Skills in the State. RESULTS: in 2009, 20.2% of all removals of state public servants were motivated by mental and behavioral disorders (n=1,668); highlights mood-affective disorders (61.0%), followed by neurotic disorders related to stress and somatoform disorders (26.4%); the category of teachers represented 45.0% of all removals. CONCLUSION: mental disorders are important causes of removal of public servants in the State; the information found indicates urgent needfor planning, development and implementation of actions aimed to improve working conditions, employment and security for public servants, especially teachers.
