BARBOSA, Daniely Aleixo  and  BARBOSA, Andréa Maria Ferreira. Evaluation of viral hepatitis database completeness and consistency in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil, 2007-2010. Epidemiol. Serv. Saúde [online]. 2013, vol.22, n.1, pp.49-58. ISSN 1679-4974.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5123/S1679-49742013000100005.

OBJETIVE: to evaluate viral hepatitis database completeness and consistency in Pernambuco state and respective health regions. METHODS: a descriptive study was performed on the viral hepatitis records contained on the Notifiable Diseases Information System for the period 2007-2010. RESULTS: of the total of4,974 confirmed cases, the following variables had incomplete data: clinical form (6.9%); source of infection (51.9%), etiological classification (9.5%) and case conclusion (16.6%). The inconsistencies found included 66.2% of records on probable source of infection or exposure, serologic results for hepatitis A (9.5%), hepatitis B (32.6%), hepatitis C (12.3%)and etiologic classification (15.0%). CONCLUSION: problems were found mainly related to completeness of source of infection data and inconsistency of the serologic confirmation variable in all health regions.
