Abstract

OBJETIVE: to describe the profile of HIV patients attending the Specialized Health Care Centre in the municipality of Tubarão, state of Santa Catarina, Brazil, in 2010. METHODS: a cross-sectional study using a secondary database, including male and female HIV-infected patients aged over 18, excluding those who had abandoned follow-up and excluding deaths. RESULTS: 476 medical records were analyzed. Average age was 39.9years (SD=12.1) and 57.1% were male. According to the notification criteria, 68.5% were reported as having AIDS. Males were associated with being older, having sexual and blood routes of infection and using antiretroviral therapy. CONCLUSIONS: white males with low education levels and mainly infected through sexual contact were predominant among HIV-infected patients having clinical follow-up in Tubarão.
