OBJETIVE: to estimate vaccination coverage among children attending a primary health care charity service in Sao Paulo in 2010. METHODS: a descriptive study was conducted; the vaccination cards of 475 children aged under six were analyzed. RESULTS: 95.7% of children completed the basic immunization schedule; this proportion dropped to 81.8% for the second dose of measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine. Receiving the second dose of hepatitis B vaccine on the expected date ranged from 34.9% to 88.4%. Vaccination coverage is higher than that found in the National Immunization Programme's database, except for tuberculosis andMMR vaccines. CONCLUSION: the drop in booster coverage and partial compliance with the recommended vaccination schedule show the need for specific actions to ensure vaccination on the recommended date.
