Resumen

BASTOS, Maria Pappaterra  y  THEME FILHA, Mariza Miranda. The use of health information systems for the management of Blood Hypertension and Diabetes Programs: a case study of the Home Delivery Medication System in a health facility in Rio de Janeiro, 2009. Epidemiol. Serv. Saúde [online]. 2013, vol.22, n.1, pp.141-150. ISSN 1679-4974.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5123/S1679-49742013000100015.

OBJETIVE: to analyze the use of the Information System of the Home Delivery Medication Project in managing the Hypertension and Diabetes Mellitus Programs in the Rio deJaneiro city. METHODS: Qualitative research based on document analysis, observation and semi-structured interviews with five managers at the three levels of municipal administration, from July to September 2009. RESULTS: at the local level, the Information System was filled in with patients' data without any integration with the regional level. The system presented only a few queries and reports necessary to the management of the programs and there was no regular routine for data analysis. CONCLUSION: Since the system had not achieved its objectives yet it can't be effectively considered to help managing the programs. It would be necessary that the Information System of the Home Delivery Medication Project could provide periodic and qualified information in order to enhance its use in municipal management.
