This article provides a review of the activities carried out in 2011 and 2012 as part of the "Strategic Action Plan to Combat Chronic Non-communicable Diseases (NCDs) in Brazil in the period2011-2022". Progress has been considerable, in particular surveillance and target monitoring, health promotion and prevention actions, addressing risk factors such as smoking, physical inactivity, unhealthy diet and alcohol; strengthening health care systems to deal with NCDs, including the strengthening of primary health care through articulation with the other levels of care and service networks. Disseminating the Plan's actions and targets can support civil society monitoring of it, so that governments and the community can establish commitments and actions aimed at reducing NCDs and improving the Brazilian population's quality of life.

Keywords : Chronic Disease; Risk Factors; Epidemiological Surveillance; Smoking; Sedentary Lifestyle.
