Resumen
MALTA, Deborah Carvalho et al. Prevalência de fatores de risco e proteção para doenças crônicas não transmissíveis em adultos: estudo transversal, Brasil, 2011. Epidemiol. Serv. Saúde [online]. 2013, vol.22, n.3, pp.423-434. ISSN 1679-4974. http://dx.doi.org/10.5123/S1679-49742013000300007.
OBJECTIVE: to describe the prevalence of risk and health protective factors for chronic diseases in the Brazilian adult population and analyze the differences according to sex, age and education. METHODS: a cross-sectional survey was conducted using 2011 data from the Surveillance System for Protective and Risk Factors via Telephone Survey (Vigitel), containing information about adults living in Brazilian state capitals. Prevalences of these factors were calculated by sex, age and educational level, and prevalence rates were adjusted by these variables. RESULTS: 54,144 adults were interviewed. The following prevalences were found: smoking 14.8% (95%CI:13.9%-15.7%); physical inactivity 14.0% (95%CI: 13.3%-14.7%); abusive alcohol consumption 17.0% (95%CI: 16.2%-17.8%); excess weight 48.5% (95%CI: 47.4%-49.7%). In general, the presence of risk factors was associated with increasing age, being male and having lower educational level. CONCLUSION: the population studied presented different patterns of exposure to protective and risk factors according to their sociodemographic characteristics.
