BOTTI, Cristina Santos; ARTMANN, Elizabeth; SPINELLI, Maria Angélica S.  y  SCATENA, João Henrique G.. Health Service Regionalization in Mato Grosso state: a case study of the implementation of the Teles Pires Region Intermunicipal Health Consortium, 2000-2008. Epidemiol. Serv. Saúde [online]. 2013, vol.22, n.3, pp.491-500. ISSN 1679-4974.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5123/S1679-49742013000300014.

OBJECTIVE: to evaluate the implementation of the Teles Pires Region-MT Intermunicipal Health Consortium. METHOD: a single case study based on secondary data for the period 2000-2008 with analysis of the external context (sociodemographic and epidemiological) of the Teles Pires region, as well the healthcare context of the consortium (organization, funding and service delivery). RESULTS: population growth rate was 5.3% (2000-2008). Infant mortality decreased 52.4% and the hospitalization rate decreased 23.2%. The Consortium's financial resources are provided by the municipalities and the state and are used to purchase specialized services and salary supplementation for Regional Hospital professionals. The number of hospitals remained stable, there was an increase of 9.3% in hospital beds and 52% in the supply of services. CONCLUSION: despite the Consortium increasing service availability, this was insufficient to meet demand in view of the population growth.
