Abstract

BARBOSA, Isabelle Ribeiro et al. Spatial distribution analysis of tuberculosis in Northeastern Brazil, 2005-2010. Epidemiol. Serv. Saúde [online]. 2013, vol.22, n.4, pp.687-695. ISSN 1679-4974.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5123/S1679-49742013000400015.

OBJECTIVE: to analyze the pattern of new tuberculosis case spatial distribution in Northeastern Brazil. METHODS: An ecological study based on the spatial analysis of new tuberculosis cases registered on the Notifiable Diseases Information System, 2005-2010. We analyzed the average annual incidence rate and cluster intensity and significance using Global Moran's indices, MoranMap and LisaMap. RESULTS: incidence in the Northeast was 26.74 cases / 100,000 in habitants. Maranhão and Bahia states recorded the highest median incidence. Global Moran's index was 0.026 (p = 0.04), showing that the values are weakly autocorrelated. There was clustering in the states of Paraíba, Pernambuco and in the southern region of Bahia. CONCLUSION: the spatial distribution pattern of tuberculosis with cluster formation in Northeastern Brazil indicates it is a priority area for tuberculosis control.
