LOPES, Aline Cristine Souza et al. Health conditions and counseling on diet and physical activity in Primary Care in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais State, Brazil. Epidemiol. Serv. Saúde [online]. 2014, vol.23, n.3, pp.305-316. ISSN 1679-4974.
OBJECTIVE: to investigate health factors associated with receiving counseling on diet andphysical activity. METHODS: cross-sectional study with a sample of Primary Health Care Centers service users in Belo Horizonte-MG. Sociodemographic, anthropometric and dietary intake data were collected, as were data on use of services, health conditions and reported receipt of counseling. RESULTS: on average 51.1% received counseling, varying between 16.5% at Center A and 36.0% at Center D. After adjusting for Primary Health Care Center, variables associated with receiving counseling (p<0.05) were: having hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, diabetes, overweight, taking medication and taking part in the Health Fitness Academy Program (HFAP). CONCLUSION: health factors associated with counseling were the presence of disease and taking part in HFAP. These findings highlight the importance of HFAP and the need to strengthen preventive health promotion counseling in Primary Care.
