Abstract

MOURA, Ana Débora Assis et al. Surveillance of adverse events following vaccination in the State of Ceará, Brazil, 2011. Epidemiol. Serv. Saúde [online]. 2015, vol.24, n.1, pp.155-160. ISSN 1679-4974.

OBJECTIVE: to describe the frequency and distribution of adverse events following immunization (AEFI) in the state of Ceará, Brazil, 2011. METHODS: a descriptive study using data from notification records of adverse events following immunization, collected through the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (SI-EAPV). RESULTS: 402 of the 552 existing records were evaluated. The DTaP-Hib vaccine has resulted in a greater number of AEFI records (80.1%); AEFI occurrence was more common in bacterial vaccines (82.6%) than in viral vaccines (17.4%); overall, 677 events were detected; the most frequent AEFI were distributed as hypotonic-hyporesponsive episodes (16.3%) and fever with temperature above 39.5oC (12.7%) for bacterial vaccines, and generalized rash (19.5%) and the fever with temperature above 39.5oC (13.6%) for viral vaccines. CONCLUSION: the results found were close to those expected when compared to other studies or to Ministry of Health data.
