Abstract
MIELKE, Grégore Iven et al. Physical activity and television viewing among Brazilian adults: National Health Survey 2013. Epidemiol. Serv. Saúde [online]. 2015, vol.24, n.2, pp.277-286. ISSN 1679-4974.
OBJECTIVE: to describe physical activity and television viewing habits among Brazilian adults. METHODS: data from the 2013 National Health Survey with adults (aged 18 and over) were analyzed; prevalence of physical activity during leisure-time, when commuting and at work, as well as physical inactivity and watching television for three or more hours/day was calculated. RESULTS: 22.5% achieved recommended physical activity during leisure-time (95%CI 21.8-23.1), with this proportion being higher among men and urban area residents; 31.9% (95%CI 31.0-32.7) of the participants were active when commuting and 46.0% (95%CI 45.2-46.8) were considered inactive in all domains; the proportion of television viewing time (three or more hours/day) was 28.9% (95%CI 28.2-29.6). CONCLUSION: given that practically half the Brazilian adult population did not achieve recommended levels of physical activity, this suggests the need to strengthen actions to promote physical activity in Brazil.
