NERY, Inez Sampaio et al. Factors associated with recurrent pregnancy following initial teenage pregnancy in Piauí, Brazil. Epidemiol. Serv. Saúde [online]. 2015, vol.24, n.4, pp.671-680. ISSN 1679-4974.
OBJECTIVE: to analyze factors associated with pregnancy recurrence following teenage pregnancy. METHODS: this was a cross-sectional study in the capital and in five other cities of Piauí State, Brazil, 2008-2009; odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (95%CI) were calculated. RESULTS: 639 women aged 17-22 were interviewed; 87.9% had their first pregnancy aged 15-19; prevalence of recurrent pregnancy within two years after the end of a previous pregnancy was 25.9% in the capital and35.4% in inner state cities; multivariate analysis showed associated factors to be: living in inner state cities (OR=1.8; 95%CI: 1.2;2.8), not studying (OR=2.8; 95%CI: 1.7;4.6), total financial dependence (OR=2.7; 95%CI: 1.4;5.3), previous abortion (OR=2.7; 95%CI:1.7;4.3) and family income of one minimum wage or less. CONCLUSION: socioeconomic aspects and having abortions were associated with recurrence of pregnancy after two years.
