The paper presents an overview of the recent history (1991-2008) of the Archaeology Department in the Goeldi Museum (Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi), with all its contributions for the archaeology of Amazonia. In order to assemble this overview, the research work undertaken, the formation of human resources, the various aspects related to the growth of and research on the collection housed in the institution, and infrastructural factors were all considered.
