Abstract
CUNHA, Maria Heliana Chaves Monteiro da; SILVESTRE, Maria do Perpétuo Socorro Amador; QUEIROZ, Marcos Fabiano de Almeida and XAVIER, Marília Brasil. Profile of anti-PGL-1 antibodies in healthy people from endemic areas of leprosy in Pará State, Brazil. Rev Pan-Amaz Saude [online]. 2012, vol.3, n.3, pp.41-47. ISSN 2176-6215.
The aim of this study was to describe the profile of IgM, anti-PGL-1 antibodies, ELISA method in blood donors in highly endemic and hyperendemic areas of leprosy in Pará State, Brazil, using the cut-off point (CP) ≥ 0.20. Other objectives were to correlate the anti-PGL-1 levels to demographic factors and BCG vaccine and identify the CP to anti-PGL-1 test based on the average levels. The results showed no statistical significance between sex, age, presence of BCG scar and anti-PGL-1 levels. Three PCs were identified: general, by blood bank and municipalities. With CP ≥ 0.13 (general), the seropositivity in variables doubled in absolute numbers from 15 to 36, it was not a statistically significant result (p > 0.05). The average levels of anti-PGL-1 were very low for high standard areas, and they did not reflect the magnitude of leprosy endemicity in these areas. The lower CP was more appropriate to the serological behavior that was identified in the present study.
