Abstract

MARMITT, Diorge Jônatas; REMPEL, Claudete; GOETTERT, Márcia Inês  and  SILVA, Amanda do Couto e. Analysis of scientific production of Curcuma longa L. (saffron) in three databases after the creation of RENISUS. Rev Pan-Amaz Saude [online]. 2016, vol.7, n.1, pp.71-77. ISSN 2176-6215.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5123/s1679-49742016000100009.

The purpose of this systematic review was to quantify the publications generated from 2010 to February 2013 in three scientific databases, SciELO, Science Direct and Springer describing therapeutic potential for a plant listed in the National List of Medicinal Plants of Interest to Brazilian Unified Health System (Relação Nacional de Plantas Medicinais de Interesse ao SUS - RENISUS) Curcuma longa L. Of the 1,139 articles found in the surveyed databases, analysis of articles was originally made by reading the journal title, observing what papers have mentioned C. longa or related terms such as "curcumin", "curcumina", "turmeric", "turmérico", "saffron" and "açafrão". The articles chosen at this stage were analyzed by reading the abstract and the selected publications reported on therapeutic treatment with the plant. In the last phase of the evaluation, the papers selected in the previous step were completely read in order to elect the ones which had therapeutic potential by using C. longa. This selection resulted in 107 articles of interest, of which 44 reported anticarcinogenic activity and 11 studies indicated antidiabetic activity for C. longa. The results of this study provide theoretical basis for discussions on public health about alternative treatments by using C. longa.

Keywords : Plants, Medicinal; Phytotherapy; Curcuma.
