Abstract

The objective of this study was to identify the clinical and epidemiological profile of patients with tuberculosis treated at a municipal health center in Belém, Pará State, Brazil. It is an observational, quantitative and descriptive study. There were 102 records as total sample which were analyzed by a proper data collection instrument. Data were tabulated in Microsoft Excel 2010. The medical records identified people with mean age of 35.39 ± 14.39 years old, with 54.90% of tuberculosis cases reported in males and 97.06% are cases from urban areas. About the marital status, 63.73% were single, 49.02% considered to be brown-skinned people and 33.35% had incomplete primary education. In relation to clinical variables, 69.60% of individuals diagnosed with tuberculosis did not smoke and 78.44% reported recent weight loss. The most prevalent type of tuberculosis clinical form was pulmonary tuberculosis (82.35%), with positive AFB smears (64.71%) and GRAM 3+. It was observed that tuberculosis is very common in our region, even being an age-old disease, it still presents growing condition in individuals today, so it is necessary strategies to minimize the disease rates.
