Abstract
ROCHA, Marcia Juciele da; WEBER, Douglas Mroginski and COSTA, Jales Pereira da. Prevalence of larva migrans in soils of city parks in Redenção, Pará State, Brazil. Rev Pan-Amaz Saude [online]. 2019, vol.10, e201901607. Epub June 24, 2019. ISSN 2176-6215. http://dx.doi.org/10.5123/s2176-6223201901607.
OBJECTIVE:
To analyze the prevalence of visceral larva migrans (VLM) and cutaneous larva migrans (CLM) in soils of city parks in Redenção, Pará State, Brazil.
MATERIALS AND METHODS:
The soils of five city parks, located from center to periphery of the city, were examined. A total of 60 g of soil were collected at five different points in each park, resulting in 25 samples. Spontaneous sedimentation and centrifugal flotation methods were used for material analysis.
RESULTS:
Of the total samples of the five parks, 80.0% were positive for the presence of parasitic forms, 72.1% were identified as CLM, and 27.9% as VLM. A predominance of filariform larvae of Ancylostoma hookworms (58.8%) was observed in relation to the rest of the larvae identified.
CONCLUSION:
The prevalence of these parasites in city parks emphasizes the importance of adopting prophylactic measures, since they can be a source of infection in environment, compromising human health.
