MÉTODOS: estudo ecológico cujas unidades de análise foram as nove macrorregiões de saúde do estado; foram estimados o número de anos de vida perdidos precocemente, o número de anos vividos com incapacidade e o número de anos de vida ajustados por incapacidade (DALYs) para 2009.  RESULTADOS: foram estimados 358.777 DALYs, a uma taxa de 5.852 DALYs/100 mil habitantes, 51,1% no sexo masculino; as faixas etárias que apresentaram maiores taxas de DALYs foram as de 60-69, 70-79 e 45-59 anos; as doenças que mais contribuíram para DALYs foram doenças isquêmicas do coração e cerebrovasculares; as macrorregiões com maiores taxas de DALYs foram Planalto Norte, Sul e Serra Catarinense.  CONCLUSÃO: a alta carga das doenças cardiovasculares em Santa Catarina evidencia a necessidade de intensificar as ações de promoção de saúde e de prevenção em todas as macrorregiões do estado.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[RESUMEN  OBJETIVO: estimar la carga de las enfermedades cardiovasculares en el estado de Santa Catarina, Brasil.  MÉTODOS: estudio ecológico cuyas unidades de análisis fueron las nueve macro-regiones de salud del estado; fueron estimados el número de años de vida perdidos, número, de años vividos con discapacidad y el número de años de vida ajustados por discapacidad (DALYs) para 2009.  RESULTADOS: fueron estimados 358.777 DALYs con tasa de 5.852 DALYs/100.000 habitantes, 51,1% en hombres y 48,9% en mujeres; los grupos de edad con las tasas más altas fueron 60-69 años, 70-79 años y 45-59 años; las enfermedades que más contribuyeron com DALYs fueron cardiopatías isquémicas y enfermedades cerebrovasculares; las macro-regiones con tasas de DALYs más altas fueron Planalto Norte, Sur y la Sierra Catarinense.  CONCLUSIÓN: la carga de las enfermedades cardiovascular es alto y destaca la necesidad de intensificar acciones y políticas de promoción de la salud y prevención en todas las macro regiones del estado.]]></p></abstract>
