Estima-se que, anualmente, haja 130 milhões de casos de diarreia por RV-A, com 453.000 mortes e 2 milhões de hospitalizações. O ensaio imunoenzimático apresenta elevada sensibilidade e praticidade e, por isso, vem sendo amplamente empregado na rotina laboratorial para detecção de RV-A. Este trabalho objetivou avaliar o desempenho do teste imunoenzimático RIDASCREEN® Rotavirus, frente ao ensaio de referência Premier&#8482; Rotaclone® Rotavirus, analisando-se especificidade, sensibilidade, precisão, interferência, reprodutibilidade e estabilidade do ensaio. Foram utilizadas 40 amostras fecais, coletadas no período de maio de 2008 a maio de 2009, provenientes de unidades de saúde pediátricas em Belém, Estado do Pará, Brasil, com testes realizados na Seção de Virologia do Instituto Evandro Chagas. O resultado apontou 90% (36/40) de concordância entre as duas metodologias, com sensibilidade de 90% (27/30) e especificidade de 100% (10/10). Não houve variação em relação à precisão, interferência, reprodutibilidade e estabilidade do teste de RIDASCREEN® frente ao Rotaclone®. Os resultados obtidos neste estudo indicam que o teste de RIDASCREEN® possui desempenho semelhante ao do "padrão-ouro", podendo ser adotado na rotina laboratorial.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT Group A rotaviruses (RV-A) cause diarrheic disease that occur especially in children under 5 years old. Annually, 130 million diarrhea cases by RV-A are estimated, with 453,000 deaths and 2 million cases of hospitalizations. The immunoenzymatic assay presents a high sensibility and convenience, and it has been widely used in lab routine work in the RV-A detection. This study aimed to evaluate the development of RIDASCREEN® Rotavirus in relation to the Premier&#8482; Rotaclone® Rotavirus reference test, analyzing specificity, sensitivity, accuracy, interference, reproducibility and stability of that assay. Forty fecal samples were used, collected from May 2008 to May 2009 of the children's health centers in Belém, Pará State, Brazil with tests that were conducted at the Virology Section of the Instituto Evandro Chagas. The results showed 90% (36/40) of matching between those two methodologies, with sensibility of 90% (27/30) and specificity of 100% (10/10). There was no change on accuracy, interference, reproducibility and stability of RIDASCREEN® test in relation to Rotaclone®. The results obtained by this study indicated that RIDASCREEN® has similar development comparing to the gold standard test, so it can be used in the lab routine work.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[RESUMEN Los rotavirus del grupo A (RV-A) causan enfermedades diarreicas que afectan principalmente a niños menores de 5 años de edad. Se estima que, anualmente, hay 130 millones de casos de diarrea por RV-A, con 453.000 muertes y 2 millones de hospitalizaciones. El inmunoensayo enzimático presenta una alta sensibilidad y practicidad, por lo que viene siendo usado ampliamente en la rutina de laboratorio para detección del RV-A. Este trabajo tiene como objetivo evaluar el desempeño de la prueba inmunoenzimática RIDASCREEN® Rotavirus, frente a la prueba de referencia Premier&#8482; Rotaclone® Rotavirus, analizando especificidad, sensibilidad, precisión, interferencia, reproducibilidad y estabilidad. Se utilizaron 40 muestras fecales, recolectadas en el periodo de mayo de 2008 a mayo de 2009, provenientes de unidades de salud pediátrica en Belém, Estado de Pará, Brasil, con pruebas realizadas en la Sección de Virología del Instituto Evandro Chagas. Los resultados mostraron un 90% (36/40) de concordancia entre las dos metodologías, con una sensibilidad de 90% (27/30) y especificidad de 100% (10/10). No hubo variación en relación a la precisión, interferencia, reproducibilidad y estabilidad de la prueba RIDASCREEN® frente al Rotaclone®.
