MATERIAIS E MÉTODOS: Amostras liquênicas de Leptogium sp. e Parmotrema sp. foram submetidas à extração orgânica por esgotamento a frio, seguindo a série eluotrópica clorofórmio e acetona. Os extratos obtidos foram testados frente a cepas de bactérias Gram-positivas, Gram-negativas e álcool-ácido resistentes, fungos filamentosos e leveduras, empregando-se o método de disco difusão em ágar. Discos de papel foram impregnados com 20 µL de cada extrato na concentração de 4 mg/mL e depositados sobre o meio previamente inoculado com os microrganismos teste. Os resultados foram avaliados pelo diâmetro dos halos de inibição em torno dos discos. Em seguida, os extratos foram submetidos à cromatografia ascendente em camada delgada e a ensaios bioautográficos para detecção dos princípios ativos.  RESULTADOS: Houve maior potencial antimicrobiano dos extratos de Parmotrema sp. com halos de inibição que variaram de 8 a 12 mm para bactérias e de 8 a 21 mm para fungos. As bactérias Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae e Mycobacterium phlei apresentaram maior sensibilidade, pois foram inibidas pelas duas espécies liquênicas. Em relação aos fungos, os mais sensíveis foram Trichophyton tonsurans, Microsporum gypseum e Epidermophyton floccosum.  CONCLUSÃO: Este trabalho ampliou o conhecimento sobre fungos liquenizados da Região Amazônica e possibilitou a obtenção de substâncias antimicrobianas viáveis para a inibição do crescimento de bactérias e fungos de importância médica.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the antimicrobial activity of extracts obtained from lichenized fungi occurring in Belém campus of Universidade Federal do Pará, Brazil.  MATERIALS AND METHODS: Lichenic samples of Leptogium sp. and Parmotrema sp. were submitted to organic extraction by cold exhaustion, following the eluotropic series chloroform and acetone. The extracts obtained were tested against strains of Gram-positive, Gram-negative and acid-resistant bacteria, filamentous fungi, and yeast using the disk diffusion method in agar. Paper discs were impregnated with 20 µL of each extract at a concentration of 4 mg/mL and placed on the medium previously inoculated with the test microorganisms. The results were evaluated by the diameter of the inhibition halos around the discs. Then, the extracts were submitted to thin layer ascending chromatography and bioautographic assays to detect the active ingredients.  RESULTS: There was a higher antimicrobial potential of Parmotrema sp. with inhibition halos ranging from 8 to 12 mm for bacteria and from 8 to 21 mm for fungi. The bacteria Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumonia, and Mycobacterium phlei showed higher sensitivity, as they were inhibited by both lichen species. The most sensitive fungi were Trichophyton tonsurans, Microsporum gypseum, and Epidermophyton floccosum.  CONCLUSION: This study expanded the knowledge about lichenized fungi of the Amazon Region and proved to be feasible to obtain antimicrobial substances capable of inhibiting the growth of bacteria and fungi of medical importance.]]></p></abstract>

MATERIALES Y MÉTODOS: Muestras liquénicas de Leptogium sp. y Parmotrema sp. fueron sometidas a extracción orgánica por agotamiento a frío, siguiendo la serie eluotrópica cloroformo y acetona. Los extractos obtenidos se probaron frente a cepas de bacterias Gram positivas, Gram negativas y ácido-alcohol resistentes hongos filamentosos y levaduras, empleando el método de disco difusión en agar. Discos de papel se impregnaron con 20 µL de cada extracto en concentración de 4 mg/mL y se depositaron sobre el medio previamente inoculado con los microorganismos prueba. Los resultados fueron evaluados por el diámetro de los halos de inhibición alrededor de los discos. Enseguida, los extractos se sometieron a la cromatografía ascendente en camada delgada y a ensayos bioautográficos para detección de los principios activos.  RESULTADOS: Hubo mayor potencial antimicrobiano de los extractos de Parmotrema sp. con halos de inhibición que variaron de 8 a 12 mm para bacterias y de 8 a 21 mm para hongos. Las bacterias Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae y Mycobacterium phlei presentaron más sensibilidad, ya que fueron inhibidas por las dos especies liquénicas. En relación a los hongos, los más sensibles fueron Trichophyton tonsurans, Microsporum gypseum y Epidermophyton floccosum.  CONCLUSIÓN: Este trabajo amplió el conocimiento sobre líquenes de la Región Amazónica y posibilitó la obtención de sustancias antimicrobianas viables para la inhibición del crecimiento de bacterias y hongos de importancia médica.]]></p></abstract>
